The Return of the Blackboard

When you think of blackboards, you probably remember your old school days, when you were given the task 5 minutes before the bell rung to signal your home-time, to wipe down the whole blackboard and then getting a scolding off your parents when you turn up at home with a uniform looking as though you jumped into a bucket of white powder due to the inevitable eraser fight with your fellow classmate, well those days are long past with the take over of white boards and 'smart-boards' However these blasts from the past are making a come-back into our homes! Were not talking about home schooling, but a fantastic way to keep notes, your daily shopping list or some weekly chores, or even as a artistic outlet.

Reduce Reuse Recycle: Mason Glass Jars!

Recently I had an engagement Party and wanted ideas for the cheapest way possible to decorate the tables, everything I stumbled across cost a fortune and when divided between 30 tables, the cost soon escalated beyond my control, I wanted a shabby Chic Vintage feel to my party so searched high and low, scouring charity shops, wholesale stores and finally resorted to Ebay, without any luck... then I stumbled across a cute Blog post about reusing materials and everyday Items and being the cheap-skate I am I thought fantastic and read ahead! The one that really caught my eye was the well known and well used 'Mason' Jar! Now I don't know anybody who hasn't used or stumbled across one of these stashed away, possibly for a number of years, in the crevices of their kitchen cupboards, and what a fantastic little multi purpose Jar this turned out to be!

Now if you don't have 30 or so mason jars stashed away somewhere I strongly recommend cleaning and sprucing up these little beauties and storing them as you use them within your home, they can be used for so many different things, which include glasses to drink out at your family BBQ to decretive purposes, or in my case Table Centre pieces, I spent a day cleaning out and emptying a-load of these jars which I purchased for 20p each which included a lovely smelling curry sauce from Morrisons, and I loved the Final result; I filled them with sand, Tied a ribbon of Lace around the jar then added some Faux Flowers (Classy I know) And they looked amazing!

Colour of Day: Rich Deep Purple

Today the Colour of the day is a really rich deep purple, I'm absolutely loving this colour, be careful not to overwhelm with too much purple, use it as a feature wall or even as a accent feature for a room, check out some of these for some inspiration for how to add purple to your home!

Try mixing rich aubergine purple with white or silver, this gives a fantastic contrasting tone, and breaks up the purple in the room if you've painted the room or feature walls purple, it also doesn't make the room as enclosed, be particularly wearing in smaller rooms as really deep colours can make the space seem smaller, in this case it is better to incorporate Purple accents or just a feature wall.

Accent rich purples can really add class and a rustic look to your room.

Maybe if your a bit skeptical about throwing a load of purple paint all over your walls, maybe try interpreting purple into your room slowly until you are comfortable with the colour and decide it is for you! Add a beautiful deep purple flower, some soft furnishings like curtains or cushions and take it from there!

Tip of the Day: Grout Pens

Many of us know how fantastic a new set of tiles in the kitchen/bathroom can look, but over time, and countless showers/washing up the tiles can end up look dull dirty and dated no matter how much elbow grease you put into your toothbrush-grout cleaning sessions the grout on the tiles can still leave you feeling....well fed up! Check out this amazing new 'grout pen' which will give your tiles a new lease of life and a good old freshen up without having to re-grout a whole bathroom or kitchen. You can get these pens from homebase, B and Q and most DIY stores, Ronseal do their own version of these pens, try to get Anti Mould so you dont get any unwanted furry friends in-between your tiles! 1 - A projector! Technology is getting cheaper and cheaper simply buy a projector and connect to your Laptop/Computer and now even Mobile Projectors, amazing for streaming Netflix, and super portable!

2- Some Comfy Cushions/Old furniture/camping chairs - If you have old furniture lying about or some bean bags or even some cute old scatter cushions, throw them on the ground and your good to go! The more mismatched the better if you want that cosy shabby Chic Look

3- A Duvet or Throw - Perfect for when the night gets a tad bit cooler!

4- Candles - get some cute cheap candles put them on a tray and light them up! For even better ambience try smelly candles and use scents such as vanilla and lavender for a gorgeous relaxing atmosphere
